  • Invest in reusable shopping bags

  • Recycle plastic, glass, metal, and paper

  • Use longer lasting bulbs

  • Only use lights in the room you are using

  • Volunteer to clean up community neighborhoods and lakes

  • Invest time in an organic garden, or start a community garden

  • Take shorter showers

  • Buy, or DIY, a rain barrel for watering vegetable and flower gardens

  • Plant a tree(s)

  • Create a milkweed garden to help the monarch butterflies that are nearly extinct

  • Choose non-toxic chemicals to clean your house

  • Choose non-toxic chemicals to care for your lawns and gardens

  • Rather than drive, bike or walk when possible

  • Create a compost barrel to put kitchen scraps to use in your garden

  • Only eat sustainable fish

  • Have at least one day a week without meat

  • Have a “clean out the fridge” night, rather than throwing away leftovers

  • Plant flowers that support the bees

  • Recycle old batteries at sites, often hardware stores, that are identified by Call2Recycle

  • Create a scrap pile of typing paper that has only been used on one side. Use the other side to take notes, create rough drafts, make shopping lists, before putting the paper in the recycle bin

  • Use chemical free soap and shampoo
